GoOutside is a place to keep and share the design you notice outside. It runs on the website at gooutside.world and in the GoOutside iPhone app, and both use the same account. This policy covers both.
What we keep
- Your account: your first and last name, handle, email address, and your password, stored only as a salted hash we can’t read back.
- Your photos: each image you add, its title and category, whether it’s public or private, and the colours in it. Also what the photo itself records, if it’s there: where it was taken (shown as a place name such as “Ribeira, Porto”), the camera, and when it was taken.
- Your profile photo, if you add one.
- What you do here: your bookmark collections, your reactions, the people you block and anything you report.
- Sign-in sessions: a random token in a cookie on the website, or in your iPhone’s Keychain in the app, so you stay signed in.
We don’t use advertising, analytics or tracking, and we don’t follow you across other apps or websites. We never sell your information.
Who can see what
- Your name, handle and profile photo are public, on your profile page and beside your photos.
- Photos are private when you add them. Only you can see a private photo. Anyone can see a public one, and your public photos appear on your profile and in Explore. An admin may also pick public photos for Home.
- Reactions are shown as counts. Nobody else sees who reacted, which photos you bookmark, or who you block.
- Your email address is never shown to anyone.
Services we use
- Cloudflare hosts GoOutside, stores the database and photos, and sends our emails (sign-up confirmation and password reset links).
- Anthropic (Claude) suggests a title and category for a photo you add, and titles photos saved without one. A copy of the image and its place name are sent to Anthropic for this. Under Anthropic’s commercial terms they aren’t used to train its models.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) turns the coordinates recorded in a photo into a place name. Only the coordinates are sent. The exact coordinates are kept with the image, not shown to anyone; we show the place name.
- Google Fonts serves the website’s typeface, so your browser contacts Google when it loads a page.
Cookies
The website uses only the cookies it needs: one to keep you signed in, one to show a message on the next page (“Photo deleted”), and one to remember which headline you last saw. None of them track you.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you have an account. Delete a photo and it’s gone, along with its bookmarks and reactions. Delete your account and we delete everything listed above: your photos, profile photo, name, email, collections, reactions, blocks and reports. Pending sign-up and password reset links expire within a day.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account any time: on the website from Mine → Delete account, or in the app from your profile’s menu. It takes effect straight away and can’t be undone.
Your rights
You can see and change your name, photos and profile photo yourself. To ask for a copy of what we hold, or for anything else about your information, email hello@gooutside.world. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Children
GoOutside isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly keep information about them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update it here and change the date at the top.
